Newest Wedding Cake Topper

I made another cake topper, and this time for my beloved friend and mentor from college.

Two things I loved about this project:

1) I started hating the idea of making these because they were so time consuming. The first and second figurines I made took me 2 days each time. The third one I made took me 7 days. I decided to change things up or I would never want to make them again. The part I disliked most was making the arms and legs. Not only was the creation of the limbs difficult, but molding and baking the clothes onto the limbs was an even greater challenge. So, I decided, why not go limbless? :) Problem solved! And, I personally think they're cuter without arms and legs! My time was cut in half. Now, it only takes me a day!

2) I love art because you create, even out of your mistakes. I was ecstatic with the heads for this one - they came out perfect! ...and then the bride's face cracked in the oven, so I decided to go with the new button eye look that I tried for the groom. I love the new look! ..and it's easier and cleaner to reproduce than the happy eyes, although I do still like the happy eyes.

One sadness:

1) I went to glance at the cake before I sat down, and someone must have grabbed the bride by the face because her (the figurine's) lipstick was smeared on her face! I didn't realize it would smudge just like real lipstick, so I quickly leaned over and wiped the rest of her lips off. She's still cute w/o the lips, but I still wish her lips hadn't come off. :(

First bride's face.

Eyeball craze.

Sad!  Cracked in oven!

Second bride's face... with new button eyes!

Messing around again at church.

This is our one and only male youth group member. He is growing out his hair into an amazing fro. I loved it so much, I wanted to draw it... with birds in it (his idea).

Couldn't find a good frontal view of his face, so I just included the profile so you can have an idea of his hair.

I went a little too crazy with the under nose shadows, so it looks like he has a mustache. Oops.
